Why Teacher’s Day only on 5 September.
Many students or other people also often get the question that why teacher’s day is celebrated on 5 September every year. Can’t Teachers Day be celebrated on any other day or date? Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the second President of our country. The special thing is that he was also the first Vice President of the country.
Who was Dr. Radhakrishnan?
Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888. Radhakrishna was a very promising student. It is said that his father did not want his son to learn English. The father’s effort was to have the son become a priest (temple priest). However, Radhakrishnan attained higher education in Tirupati and Vellore. Later, his entire life was devoted to education. He went to Mysore, Kolkata, Oxford, and later Chicago as an education specialist. Radhakrishnan was awarded the title of Sir by the British Government. In 1954, this great educationist was also awarded the Bharat Ratna. In 1962, the Government of India announced to celebrate Dr. Radhakrishnan’s birthday, September 5 as National Teachers’ Day. Since then we celebrate Teachers’ Day on 5 September.

The interesting fact is that Teachers’ Day is celebrated all over the world but everyone has set a separate day for it. In some countries, this day is a holiday, and sometimes it is a working day.

FACT10. In Turkey, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on 24 November. This was announced by Kamal Ataturk, the first president there. In Malaysia, it is celebrated on May 16, where this special day is called ‘Hari Guru’.

#3. Dr. Radhakrishnan has taught in various colleges from the University of Mysore to Calcutta University.
#4. He was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, University of Delhi as well as Banaras Hindu University.
#5. In the year 1930, he was appointed as Haskell Lecturer in Comparative Religion at the University of Chicago.
#6. Dr. Radhakrishnan led the Indian delegation to the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and was elected President of the Executive Board of UNESCO in 1948.
#7. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honor of the country in 1954.
