FACT#1. When Lal Bahadur Shastri became the Prime Minister of the country in 1964, food items were imported from abroad. At that time, the country depended on North America for food grains under the PL-480 scheme. But after the war with Pakistan in 1965, there was a severe drought in the country. To emerge from these conditions, Shastri requested the countrymen to fast for a day and gave us the slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’.

During the freedom struggle of the country, Lal Bahadur Shastri had to go to jail for the first time at the age of 17 under the cooperation movement, but at that time he was a minor, so he was released. After this, in 1930, he was imprisoned for two and a half years under the Civil Disobedience Movement. He was then imprisoned between 1940 and 1941 to 1946. In this way, he remained in jail for the entire nine years.

FACT#3. Lal Bahadur Shastri’s personality was very honest and full of patriotism. When he was in jail during the freedom struggle, his wife took two mangoes in jail for him. On this, he expressed his displeasure and staged a protest against his wife. Shastri ji believed that if the prisoners in jail eat anything outside, then that is to violate the law. Therefore, he opposed his own wife. Not only this, once he was given 15 days parole to meet a sick daughter from jail, but his daughter said goodbye to the world before the completion of his parole period, then he went back to jail before the term was completed.

FACT#4. Shastri never used a surname due to being against casteism. Shastri was his title, which he received after studying from Kashi Vidyapeeth. Apart from this, he refused to take dowry in marriage, took a few meters of Khadi in honor of his father-in-law at the very insistence of him.

During the tenure of the Transport Minister, he first associated women with the transport sector, taking the initiative to bring them as conductors.
