Who is Dr. Muthulakshmi?

She was born on July 30, 1886, in Tamil Nadu (then Madras). Muthulakshmi had to face difficulties to read from childhood. Muthu’s father S. Narayana Swamy was the Principal of Maharaja College of Chennai. Muthu’s mother Chandramai sent him to study despite the tales of the society. He also did not disappoint parents and became the first female doctor in the country.

Dr. Reddy is also known for social inequality, gender-based inequality, and efforts to provide adequate healthcare to the people. She became the first female doctor in the country in 1912 and became the first woman surgeon in the Government Maternity Hospital of Madras.

Marriage was due at an early age.

Parents wanted to marry him at a young age, but Dr. Reddy spoke against completing his studies while protesting against it. After completing his initial education, he enrolled at Madras Medical College for the study of the doctor. She was the first woman student to do a doctorate in this college. This was the college where he had a friendship with Annie Besant and Sarojini Naidu.
